General Surgery Department of Wenzhou People's Hospital was established in the initial post-liberation period. After decades of development, the department has laid solid foundation in surgical technologies, being the key disciplines of Wenzhou City, one of the key discipline groups jointly-constructed by Zhejiang Province and Wenzhou City. In 2016, it set up Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Liver Cancers, and Gastrointestinal Minimally Invasive Center. In 2018, it set up the Liver, Gallbladder and Pancreas Diagnostic Center of Southern Zhejiang, National Early Liver Cancer Screening Center, and it became the only standing council unit of China Liver Cancer Portal Venous Cancer Thrombosis Alliance in Wenzhou region. In 2019, General Surgery Department ranked 81st nationwide in the Science and Technology Quantitative Value Listing for Chinese Hospitals and Chinese Medical Colleges. In 2020, it became the demonstration ward of Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) in Zhejiang Province. Professor Cheng Shuqun’s team from Shanghai Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital and Professor Zheng Minhua’s team from Shanghai Ruijin Hospital have been introduced into the department to guide the clinical business and scientific research development of hepatobiliary, pancreatic and gastrointestinal field.
