On the morning of April 7, a laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy live streaming was being held on schedule in the operating room of Wenzhou People's Hospital. The surgeon in charge of the minimally invasive pancreatic surgery was Professor Xu Xiaowu, director of Pancreatic Operation Minimally Invasive Center of Tumor Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University. Director Hu Yiren of General Surgery Department of Wenzhou People’s Hospital gave help during this surgery. They worked closely with each other to perfectly demonstrate the whole surgical process, which won loud shouts of applause from the medical staff of the same occupation.

It is learned that on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the founding of Wenzhou People's Hospital, Professor Xu Xiaowu of Pancreatic Surgery Department of Tumor Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University was invited to join Shanghai Famous Doctors’ Clinic of Wenzhou People's Hospital. On April 7, Professor Xu Xiaowu signed a long-term cooperative agreement with Wenzhou People's Hospital.

On the morning that same day, Professor Xu Xiaowu saw patients on a volunteer basis, and then performed his "first show" surgery. The two local patients who accepted this surgery were a 78-year-old patient who suffered from pancreatic head tumor and a 62-year-old patient that suffered from pancreatic body tail tumor. Originally, they needed to undergo open surgery, but this time Professor Xu Xiaowu performed laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy and pancreatic body tail resection with spleens remained. The tumors could be treated radically by opening a few holes on the abdomens. The operation went smoothly, and the patients bled less during the operation, which was finished within the time shorter than expected.

Compared to traditional surgery, "minimally invasive surgery for pancreatic tumors can greatly reduce patients' pain and make them recover faster. Furthermore, laparoscopic surgery can magnify the image of the affected area to help doctors carry out more accurate operations. For the 62-year-old patient's pancreatic body tail tumor, if ordinary surgery was carried out, it would have required the spleen to be removed at the same time, but laparoscopic surgery had the spleen remained while completely removing the pancreatic tumor, with the important function of the spleen remained, helping the patient's recovery in the future.

Director Hu Yiren of General Surgery Department of Wenzhou People's Hospital mentioned that Professor Xu Xiaowu, director of Pancreatic Minimally Invasive Surgery Department of Tumor Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University is the pioneer of minimally invasive surgery for pancreatic tumors in China, and the leader in the field of pancreatic minimally invasive surgery. He has nearly 20 years of experience in laparoscopic operation and specializes in the treatment of pancreatic pseudocysts, pancreatic endocrine tumors, pancreatic tumors and other benign and malignant diseases of pancreas.

It is said that in the beginning of each month from then, Professor Xu Xiaowu will offer clinical reception at Shanghai Famous Doctors’ Clinic of Wenzhou People's Hospital, as well as irregularly coming to Wenzhou to perform surgeries so that pancreatic, biliary tract tumor patients will have easy access to the medical services offered by Shanghai experts in Wenzhou.
